CES 2015 Best of for your Home
The 2015 Consumer Electronic Show in Las Vegas just wrapped up and we wanted to showcase the top new products hitting the market for your home.
Proper lighting can go far in making a home feel warm and welcoming and even sometimes make a space feel larger. The 2015 International Consumer Electronics Show buzzed about the “smart” bulb – that could be one of the most exciting in the smart-home front. You’ll no longer have to worry about arriving to a dark home with Stack Lighting’s Alba LED lights, $60, is a flood light that can be set to come on automatically as you step into the room. The lights also can be set to dim automatically to provide the ideal levels of brightness throughout the day – also helping to save on energy costs compared to standard LED lights. You can also control the lights from your phone, adjusting the color from a warm orange to a cooler blue tone, depending on the setting you want to create.
The smart light bulb may also offer extra security. Sengled Snap Bulb, a CES 2015 Innovation award winner, are LED light bulbs that contain speakers, microphone, and a motion sensor, allowing you to stream video to your smartphone. You can see who is standing on the front porch. No extra wiring is needed. Sengled’s Snap Bulb, $199, will be available in the spring of 2015.
If you’re going to set the right mood with your lights, you may want to add some soft music to the background too. With Light Tunes, a WiFi-connected light bulb that has a built-in speaker, you can stream audio from your smartphone and tablet to several of the speaker-equipped light fixtures. No speaker elements are shown, and you may never guess that the light in the home is the one supplying the music.
Finally if you have a larger home why not use the Boost lightbulb that allows you to boost WiFi to the room that needs just that - a boost. With each bulb you connect, the range of your wi-fi is increased. More bulbs means more places to enjoy your content without worrying about slower speeds. This bulb is available in just one week.
From the Iris Home Management System which allows you to manage lighting, doors, and security you can now also manage water leaks. The Utilitech Water Leak Detector alerts you when there is water on the floor and can even shut the water off if you are not at home.
Kwikset has redefined their keyless entry with Kevo - the key evolved. It turns your smart phone into your key and you can even give temporary access to the housekeeper or home sitter.
Just for Fun
The following are not necessarily for the home but they sure are a great accessory we hope to soon see on the market. These new drones at CES are the AirDog, designed for extreme sports (surfing, skiing, off-road biking), the Hexo+ drone from Franco-American Squadrone System that can follow and film a person or object from any conceivable angle via smartphone and can be pre-programmed, and a selfie drone called Zano that follows and shoots video as you both go about your business.
Our favorite though is Nixie, the first wearable camera that can fly - A camera that comes with you everywhere... and can fly. With a gesture, Nixie takes off, captures the moment, and comes right back.
